SUMMARY:Connecting Families Through Art & Nature
DESCRIPTION:Connecting Families Through Art & Nature\n\n\n\nCome relax and create art in a beautiful setting with Art Impact Project’s Neurographic Art Project. Neurographic drawing is a term coined by Dr. Pavel Piscarev to describe this form of doodling. Neurographica has been scientifically validated and is a widely used form of art therapy. It creates a mindful and meditative\, yet aware state\, through the creation of new neural connections. This watercolor project is great for everyone\, and no art experience is needed!  Adults will have the opportunity to complete this project while we provide age-appropriate art projects for children and adolescents. This is a collaborative program\, presented by LCCAC Blue Kids Lake County\, Art Impact Project\, and Brushwood Center. \n\n\n\n\nRESERVE YOUR TICKETS

SUMMARY:BASE: Open Art Workshop with Katelyn Patton
DESCRIPTION:You Choose the Project · Use Tools and Supplies From BASE · Get Help When You Need It\n\n\n\nOpen Art Workshop is open to anyone who wants to make something in any area of visual arts and crafts\, from the experienced artist looking for a community of others to work with\, to the complete novice who just wants to try something out in a low pressure environment\, or the family looking for a fun kids’ activity to fill their afternoon – this workshop is for you! \n\n\n\nThis month\, our April Artist of the Month Katelyn Patton will be our guest artist. Katelyn is a visual artist working in Chicago who was born and raised in the Midwest. Her practice focuses on the urban ecology and biodiversity of plants in the city and beyond\, the ways that material and color can be naturally derived from them\, and how this hyper localized knowledge can be used as a vessel for connecting multiple overlapping histories\, stories\, and meanings. Stop by to learn from Katelyn! \n\n\n\nWHEN DOES IT HAPPEN? 10am-3pm\, the last Saturday of every month (no meetings in November and December 2025). Come anytime during the day\, and stay as long as you’d like. \n\n\n\nWHAT DOES IT COST? Workspace\, use of our tools and any instruction or assistance you need is free; supplies from BASE are “pay what you want” (free to teachers and organizations). \n\n\n\nWHAT CAN I MAKE? Almost* anything! Come with a project you want to work on in mind\, or pick one from our list of project ideas for all ages and abilities. You are welcome to bring your own supplies and tools\, or use ones from BASE. You can work independently\, or work with an instructor. Here are just a few ideas of what you can learn and do at the Open Art Workshop: \n\n\n\nWatercolor · Embroidery · Mosaics · Book Binding · Charcoal Drawing · Knitting & Crochet · Decoupage · Sewing & Mending · Jewelry Making · Plein Air Painting · Basket Weaving · Picture Framing · Card Making · Kids Art Projects · Block Printing · Stained Glass · Acrylic Painting · Costume Making · Weaving · Collage · UpCycling · Gift Wrapping · Sculpture · Upholstery · Colored Pencil · Wreath Making · Beading · Rubber Stamps · Oil Painting · Quilting · Pastels · Macramé · Miniatures \n\n\n\n*We will do our best to accommodate all types of projects\, but there may be limitations on what is possible on a particular day due to limitations of space\, supplies or tools (supplies and tools are mostly donated\, and what is available is always changing)\, or due to a particular project being too messy or dangerous to be done in a public space. If a particular project cannot be worked on during the Workshop that day\, we will do our best to help you figure out how to proceed on a future Workshop date or on your own. Since this Workshop is open to ALL topics and media\, we won’t be experts on everything\, but we can definitely help you get started. \n\n\n\nIf you have questions about Open Art Workshop or BASE\, please contact Julia Kemerer at 224-633-2426 or jkemerer@brushwoodcenter.org. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nREGISter

SUMMARY:Celebrating Women's History with Duo FAE
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating Women’s History with Duo FAE\n\n\n\nJoin us at Brushwood Center for a celebration of Women’s History Month with an afternoon of chamber music written and performed by women! \n\n\n\nDuo FAE performs music filled with “virtuosity and maturity” (Hill and Hollow Music.) for audiences with works by Florence Price\, Clara Schumann\, Amy Beach\, Lili Boulanger\, and Dame Ethel Smyth. \n\n\n\nIn 2012\, Duo F.A.E. was founded by violinist Charlene Kluegel and pianist Katherine Petersen who had met at the Aspen Music Festival several years prior. The duo takes its name from the motto of virtuoso violinist Joseph Joachim and composer Johannes Brahms “Frei Aber Einsam” meaning “Free but Alone.” (shown on the left) The duo brought new meaning to this motto\, doing all of their rehearsing and concertizing while living in Canada and the U.S. respectively at the inception of the ensemble. The duo seeks to present concerts that feature chamber music in its rawest form by joining two voices into one. \n\n\n\nCome usher in spring and celebrate the artistry of these marvelous composers and performers this March! \n\n\n\n\nPurchase Tickets

SUMMARY:BASE: Open Art Workshop
DESCRIPTION:You Choose the Project · Use Tools and Supplies From BASE · Get Help When You Need It\n\n\n\nWant to learn to knit? Need to repair a mosaic? Want to try your hand at oil paints\, but don’t know where to start? There’s no need to sign up for a formal class or invest in lots of supplies just to give it a try\, because in this workshop\, you get to decide the project\, and you get access to all the tools and supplies in BASE (the Brushwood Art Supply Exchange). \n\n\n\nProjects can be big or small\, quick and easy or long-term and complex. You can work independently\, or work with an instructor who will help you get the supplies\, tools and knowledge you need to get started on the project of your choice. \n\n\n\nOpen Art Workshop is open to anyone who wants to make something in any area of visual arts and crafts\, from the experienced artist looking for a community of others to work with\, to the complete novice who just wants to try something out in a low pressure environment\, or the family looking for a fun kids’ activity to fill their afternoon – this workshop is for you! \n\n\n\nWHEN DOES IT HAPPEN? 10am-3pm\, the last Saturday of every month (no meetings in November and December 2024).
