SUMMARY:Radical Hope in the Woods: Remembering the Woods - Ancestral Memory Circle
DESCRIPTION:Remembering the Woods: Ancestral Memory Circle\n\n\n\nRemembering the Woods: Ancestral Memory Circle is a guided virtual gathering that invites participants into a space of reflection\, remembrance\, and racial healing. Rooted in the project Radical Hope in the Woods\, this circle honors the deep and complex relationship between Black Americans and the natural world.  \n\n\n\nThrough storytelling\, mindfulness\, and shared dialogue\, participants will explore how the woods served as places of refuge\, resistance\, and spiritual connection for enslaved ancestors. Drawing from slave narratives\, folklore\, and oral histories\, this experience reframes nature as sacred space of memory\, wisdom\, and liberation. \n\n\n\nParticipants will leave this virtual Lunch and Learn with a renewed sense of connection to the land\, deeper awareness of ancestral resilience\, and an invitation to continue reclaiming nature as a space for rest\, belonging\, and radical hope.  \n\n\n\nTogether\, we will: \n\n\n\n-Reflect on ancestral relationships with land and survival  \n\n\n\n-Engage in grounding practices that reconnect us to nature  \n\n\n\n-Explore folklore and stories that carried hope and freedom coded \n\n\n\n-Begin a journey of collective healing rooted in remembrance \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\nSpecial thanks to support from Healing Illinois. \n\n\n\nHealing Illinois is a racial healing initiative of the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) in partnership with the Field Foundation of IL.

We will examine Joanna Rakowski’s unique story and explore our own personal identities and how the military community has shaped them.  \n\n\n\nWhat is it like to be part of the world’s most powerful armed forces at the dawn of the 21st century? Does a military tale have to be about the men going to war? You’ll find out in Chasing the Daylight: One Woman’s Journey to Becoming a U.S. Army Intelligence Officer. Joanna is a fragile\, romantic\, former ballerina. After a painful rift with her beloved friend and mentor\, she joins the U.S. Army. Her dream is to become an Intelligence Officer.
